Citizen Kane....To Like or Not to Like....That is the Question.
I really thought I would literelly DIE when our Media Studies teacher started in on the whole Citizen Kane thing. The old guy with the beard, Orson Welles, that she obviously is obsessed about, was of no interest to me. As negatively as I felt about disecting a movie made in 1941, made in black and white and in which the actors have some sort of old British-like accent, I became pleasantly surprised at how, I (slowly) started to actually like it. I started out trying to be positive, for the students sake, asking questions and looking like I was enjoying the documentary intro. Little did I know that the questions would become genuine and my interest, sincere. As I watched the movie, I was trying to imagine how the audience, back in 1941, would have been enthralled with seeing such special effects for the first time. I have to admit that my first experience with special effects would have been the 1970 something movie, Escape to Witch Mountain, when I became obsessed with Tony and Tia. I can see how the fans were crazy about Orson Welles and his portrayal of the billionaire tycoon that he ironically had so much in common with. Thank you to Mrs Smith for sharing her passion. Although, I was pretty skeptical, I thoroughly enjoyed the documentary and movie and I am so glad I didn't let my negative attitude get the best of me. I would have really missed out. (like some of the students that were texting the whole time).

How does media affect your preception of reality.
The media is very influential. To me, although I am able to keep my head clear and my wits about me in relation to what is real and what isn't, I can still get lost from a matter of minutes to a couple of hours. It certainly depends on what I am tuning into. For example, I can get lost in a gardening magazine dreaming about all the great ideas for my garden this spring. Although, I have no intetion of brick walkways, fountains or fish ponds with waterfalls, I get consumed with dreaming and the potential "what ifs." When is comes to tv, I am less apt to get involved, however, during an episode of Friends its really hard not to imagine having a body like Jennifer Anniston and living in a great apartment with my best friends across the hall. Back to reality.....its Shrove Tuesday and I have yet to figure out what I am serving my family along with the traditional pancakes with money in them. I guess I'd better round up some coins for supper.

Dairytown Classic
Squeeky sneakers on the hardwood, pounding basketballs, the smell of pizza and the vibrant hum of the familiar crowd over the announcer can only be our hometown Dairytown Classic. Its that time again, the time to cram in the gym and cheer on our Sonics!
